C&I Lender

Job Summary

This individual will be responsible for generating new Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans, growing deposits, developing new business relationships, and managing the overall profitability and credit quality of their portfolio.


The ideal candidate is a proven commercial banker with strong business development and credit skills, an established network within the local market, and demonstrated success producing both loans and deposits.


This is a relationship-driven position requiring someone who can independently prospect for new business, structure commercial credit facilities, manage existing relationships, and partner with Credit, Treasury Management, and other areas of the Bank to provide comprehensive financial solutions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop new commercial banking relationships through prospecting, referrals, centers of influence, networking, and community involvement.
  • Generate new C&I loan production and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Grow core deposits, particularly operating accounts and other relationship-based deposits.
  • Manage and expand an existing portfolio of commercial banking relationships.
  • Develop relationships with privately held businesses, business owners, executives, and other commercial clients.
  • Structure C&I credit facilities, including lines of credit, working capital facilities, equipment financing, term loans, owner-occupied real estate, and other business-purpose loans.
  • Evaluate borrower financial performance, repayment capacity, collateral, leverage, and overall credit risk.
  • Review business and personal financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and other relevant financial information.
  • Prepare and/or work closely with Credit to develop loan presentations and credit approval packages.
  • Present and recommend commercial credit requests to appropriate approval authorities and Loan Committee when required.
  • Negotiate loan structures, pricing, terms, covenants, and other conditions with clients.
  • Manage the lending process from initial opportunity through underwriting, approval, documentation, closing, and funding.
  • Monitor existing relationships for changes in financial condition, credit quality, covenant compliance, and overall risk.
  • Complete or coordinate annual reviews, renewals, modifications, and other portfolio management activities.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships through Treasury Management, deposits, cash management, merchant services, and other banking products.
  • Partner with Treasury Management, Credit, Operations, and other internal teams to provide comprehensive solutions.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the Bank's credit policies, lending procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain an active presence within the local business community and develop relationships with attorneys, CPAs, business brokers, commercial real estate professionals, and other centers of influence.
  • Meet or exceed established goals for loan production, deposit growth, portfolio quality, and relationship profitability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of commercial banking/lending experience preferred.
  • Proven experience originating and managing C&I loans.
  • Demonstrated track record of new business development and commercial loan production.
  • Proven ability to generate and grow commercial deposits in addition to loans.
  • Strong understanding of C&I credit, underwriting, loan structuring, and commercial credit risk.
  • Experience with working capital lines, revolving lines of credit, equipment financing, term loans, and other business-purpose lending.
  • Experience with owner-occupied CRE as part of a broader C&I relationship is preferred.
  • Strong financial statement, tax return, and cash flow analysis skills.
  • Ability to understand and discuss credit structures with borrowers and internal Credit teams.
  • Experience managing an existing commercial loan portfolio and monitoring credit quality.
  • Established relationships with local businesses and centers of influence strongly preferred.
  • Formal commercial credit training preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Treasury Management and commercial deposit products.
  • Excellent business development, relationship management, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable banking regulations, lending policies, and compliance requirements.
