The controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the bank and holding company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the holding company and bank's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with SEC rules, generally accepted accounting principles and FDIC/OFR regulatory rules.
· Oversees the financial functions of the bank and holding company.
· Evaluate, organize, train, grow and manage accounting staff.
· Organize and be responsible for month-end close process and all month-end reporting of the bank and holding company.
· Presents monthly reports to the Board of Directors and senior management.
· Organize and assume responsibility for quarterly CALL Reporting to FDIC and all periodic FRB reporting.
· Maintains the annual budget (with monthly detail), while reporting to the Board of Directors the bank’s financial performance
· Manage quarterly state estimated income tax payments.
· Assist with all regulatory compliance, safety and soundness, and internal/external exams on their cycles.
· Responsible for assisting the CFO in identifying, measuring, monitoring, and controlling the model for ACL estimation, CECL calculation, and general economic review as it pertains to potential credit loss outlook.
· Complete annual insurance renewal process
· Oversees the bank’s and holding company’s accounts payable process.
· Maintains the accounting and reporting of the bank’s investment portfolio.
· Responsible for seeking and implementing continuous efficiencies dependent on the leverage of technology and automation, where feasible and valuable.
· Responsible for maintenance and implementation of policies related to accounting & finance functions of the bank and holding company.
· Other related duties as required.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, CPA preferred
· Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a senior financial position, with experience in banking.
· 5 years’ experience of managing at least 5 person accounting staff
· Fiserv system knowledge preferred
· Public company filing knowledge
· SOX and internal controls experience to assist us in upgrading documentation
· SEC experience is preferred
· Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) knowledge is required
· Prior experience in budgeting interest income, interest expense and operational expenses
· Prior experience with asset/liability management and reporting to the ALCO
· Able to grow department and processes commensurate with the upcoming growth of the bank
· Strong knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures that is reflective of the banking industry.
· Proven expertise in banking regulations and related banking operations with demonstrated success in balancing operational efficiency and regulatory expectations.
· Successful experience managing corporate governance matters and communicating relevant information with boards of directors and management.
· Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset with strong organizational and leadership skills.
· High-level analytical and communication skills.
